Like other reviewers I received this item from Amazon in the tattered remains of the shipping box. The item itself was not damaged much (metal mesh floor was slightly bent), and all the peices and instructions were there. Assembly was easy enough. Instructions are not great, but it isn't overlly complicated either. The rack comes in main three peices, left half, right half, and the hitch post. The two halfs bolt togehter on either side of the hitch post. There are also a couple plates that join the upper part of the rack where the two halfs meet. All told there are 11 bolts to install. A torque wrench is recommended, but not really critical.
The fit and finishe on the rack itself is good, but the bolts and washers supplied are a much lower quality finish. A couple of the supplied washers in the one I got were already rusting. I suggest upgrading to stainless hardware if appearence is important to you. The cutouts for taillights are nice, but the lack of a license plat mounting point is annoying. There isn't even a good spot to put one. I ended up making a larger plate for the center where the two halfs of the rack come together.
The hitch post is a little loose in a standard 2" receiver, but the rack is heavy enough that it doesn't move around too much. If it bothers you get an anti-rattle kit. The carrier sits far enough off the ground that it does not adversly affect ground clearence on a midsize SUV. On my 1995 Chevy Blazer, it is low enough that I can still open the tailgate when there is no cargo on the carrier (the rear window wiper ends up about 1/2" from the carrier top rail.) The carrier does stick out a bit further than others I looked at, on my truck it ended up being almost 6" from the rear bumper. Not a probelm, but something to be aware of if you have to parallel park.
This uint is heavier than others I looked at, so installation and removal is a bit of a job, but managable by one person of average strength. For two people it would be easy.

This fit our 2005 Highlander just great. The weight limit is a little light, but I think that's because of our hitch and vehicle setup, not because of the carrier itself. Be sure to check all of that information before picking this up. We intend to use this primarily for hunting and it was a great buy in that respect. It hauled the deer home just fine. There is some concern about the proximity to the exhaust, so my husband manufactured a heat sheild. This is only a suggestion if you're hauling something that could be damaged by the heat of the exhaust. In our case, deer meat for more than two hours. The heat sheild helped. Overall, a great buy.

This is a very solid piece of equipment. It held a Rola Bag on it with no problem and no vibration or jostling noise at all. I had a local trailer hitch installer put the lights on it for minimal cost and it worked like a charm. The whole trip -- looking forward to using it again.
